The owner of a newly-opened steel roof and siding manufacturing business in Upper Onslow is hoping to get in on the growing popularity of the long-lasting product perfectly suited for Nova Scotia weather.

Quick Panel Industries owner Levi Dueck says he initially started the business back in 2018 with rolling and installing standing seam metal roofing, but he’s now transitioned to supply steel for roofing and siding and all the trim.

“In 2018, we were into manufacturing and installing what we manufactured, but we have now transitioned over to just manufacturing the Tuff-Rib panel,’’ he explains.

Construction of the workshop began at the end of August, and while it’s suitably-sized for now, Dueck says there’s a distinct possibility he could outgrow the current facility and have to expand as business grows.

Located at 96 Hub Centre Dr. in Upper Onslow, Quick Panel Industries serves an area within an approximate two-hour drive of the workshop. While it’s capable of expanding that service area to all of Nova Scotia and even New Brunswick, right now Dueck is focused on supporting local contractors and homeowners.

While Dueck is new to the steel roof and siding world, he’s no stranger to manufacturing. The longtime entrepreneur owned a successful kitchen manufacturing business out west from 2002-2017, but now is following in his grandfather’s footsteps who was in the metal business for more than 60 years.

He’s capable of manufacturing approximately five house roofs each day at the Quick Panel Industries’ current location. He buys the metal in coils, which are then unloaded at the property and run through machinery to be cut to custom length using high-quality, state-of-the-art equipment purchased especially for the operation.

He’s hoping to grow the business at a slow and steady pace, reluctant to grow too fast in order to comfortably keep up to demand. Having just opened the doors a couple of weeks ago, he’s hanging tight and waiting to see where the business goes.

Dueck says he’s excited about what the future holds for the independently-owned family business, which he runs along with his two daughters. Although a bit atypical these days, Dueck has opted to operate the business without a website or social media presence — he much prefers to deal with folks in person or over the phone.

He says there’s a growing market for this type of panel, as more people see the benefit of a long-lasting steel roof compared to other options out there. In fact, the product he supplies offers a 40-year no rust warranty as well as a 30-year no-paint-fading warranty at a competitive price.
